Electrification and flexibility provision from Greenport North (EFFORT)

News

Update from EFFORT

The EFFORT project is well underway. Data is already being collected from several of the companies on the port and will form the basis for the simulation models to be developed by both EMD, PlanEnergi, and Aalborg University. The models will serve as a basis for identifying opportunities for electrical flexibility services for the companies. This means that their consumption can be managed more optimally in the future in relation to local energy production, grid capacity, and electricity market prices.

In the first year of the project, the partners have focused on gaining a deeper understanding of the processes in the individual companies and how they can contribute to the desired flexibility services to the grid. Based on this, seven scenarios have been formulated, which the partnership will continue to work on. One for analyzing the capacity of the electricity grid around Hirtshals Port (at 60 kV, 10 kV, and 400 V levels), one for each of the five companies to determine energy optimization and flexibility services from them, and finally one for the data hub that will be established for the collection and storage of necessary data for optimization.

Based on analyses and optimization routines, the partners will later in the project propose energy consumption management solutions to increase efficiency and reduce electricity costs for the individual companies. This will be done while collectively contributing to ensuring the capacity of the electricity grid and greater integration of renewable energy. These results will have broad applicability for other industries and ports, thus contributing to ensuring the green transition in Danish industry and port areas with the significant integration of renewable energy from wind and solar sources.
